About True Tasmania cycling tours, Tasmania
True Tasmania is a part of the Velo Tours group, owned and operated by Sydney Olympian and triathlon world champion, Craig Walton, along with 20 year triathlon event participant/organiser and international team manager, Kerry Stubbs. Both Craig and Kerry are Tasmanians and long time friends who have spent many years training, competing and socially riding on Tasmania's roads. Though both have retired from racing, their passion for riding hasn't diminished. They are now committed to sharing their local knowledge and love of riding with fellow cycling enthusiasts and visitors to Tasmania via quality, value for money and unforgettable bike tour experiences.
Craig and Kerry both have distinguished careers in the saddle. Craig is regarded as one the best triathletes to have graced the world stage, thanks largely to his dynamic swimming and bike leg combinations, which allowed him to break the back of some of triathlon’s biggest names.
He began his elite career back in 1993 and won six world cups, which ranks him in a tie for eighth place all-time. He’s also won many National titles in both the sprint, Olympic distance and long course formats, and took the Noosa Triathlon crown no less than six times. But his highest honor was undoubtedly representing Australia at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 as well as being the coach responsible for Australia's first ever Olympic gold medal is triathlon
Though retired, Craig continues to run his coaching business and still trains regularly.
Kerry Stubbs also has an outstanding background in sport, including;
Triathlon Australia Age Group Team Managers, 2003 – 2009;
Winner of the Sports Administrator of the Year Award;
Winner of the Royce Fairbrother Award – for outstanding contribution to the sport of Triathlon;
Life Member – Triathlon Tasmania;
National Operations Manager of T3 Events, Ironman Australia and Evtech Events;
20 years experience in event management and development;
Former Ironman Triathlete;
Australian Age group Triathlon representative 1999 Montreal, Canada.
After the 2006 Long Course World Championships in Lorient, France, Kerry and his fiance Kim, also a Tasmanian, with many years eperience in 5 star hospitality, cycled through some of France's most glorious countryside and watched the finish of the Tour de France - the experience inspired them to bring cycle touring to Tasmania.
With their extensive local knowledge, tourism experience and passion for riding, Craig, Kerry and Kim are excited to be able to introduce guests to a true Tasmanian cycling experience.
